Amin Khalaf , President and Co-Founder, Hand in Hand Israel President and Co-Founder of Hand in Hand, Amin Khalaf has taught in both Arab and Jewish public schools throughout Jerusalem and lectured on education at the David Yellin College of Education in Jerusalem. Amin has also been intensely involved in national coexistence projects, including serving as a group facilitator for a Jewish-Arab dialogue group. Amin earned his M.A. and B.A. in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies with distinction from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he also received his teaching certificate in 1990. A native of the Arab village Muqibla in northern Israel, Amin now lives in Jerusalem with his wife and three children, all of whom attend Hand in Hand's Max Rayne Jerusalem School. Lee Gordon, Co-Founder and Executive Director, American Friends of Hand in Hand Hand in Hand co-founder Lee Gordon lived in Israel for two decades, during which he was actively involved in Jewish-Arab dialogue. Originally from the United States, Lee earned an M.A. in Social Work from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and graduated from the Mandel Institute's prestigious School for Educational Leadership. Lee is a veteran social activist and community organizer, having worked and volunteered for organizations such as Peace Now and Young Judea. He is currently living in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and three children, working to build a network of international support for Hand in Hand. Sam Shube, Executive Director, Hand in Hand Israel Sam Shube took over as Executive Director of Hand in Hand Israel in March of 2008. He oversees day-to-day operations of Hand in Hand's international headquarters in Jerusalem, which is responsible for the organization's research, fundraising, financial administration, and media outreach. Born and raised in New York City, he did his undergraduate work at Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary. After moving to Israel and serving in the IDF's Engineering Corps, Sam held leadership positions as Director of a Reform synagogue in Jerusalem, Chief Executive of immigrant absorption centers, and (most recently) as Deputy Director of Rabbis for Human Rights. Ira Kerem, Senior Development Associate, Hand in Hand Israel Ira moved to Israel from Maryland in 1980 and joined Hand in Hand in 2005. He brings over 30 years of experience in the field of non-profit work. Ira is Hand in Hand Israel's liaison to the American Friends of Hand in Hand and is also responsible for the organization's media outreach efforts including editing and writing of the website and the e-mail newsletter. He also writes grant proposals and reports to funders. Outside of Hand in Hand, Ira has worked for major American Jewish federations, served in the Israeli Civil Guard, and lobbied the Israeli government on behalf of the Association of Americans and Canadians in Israeli (AACI). Maura Milles, Director of Development, American Friends of Hand in Hand, New York Office Maura Milles is the Director of the New York Office of Hand in Hand. A professional fundraiser, Maura has served in the Development Offices at NYU Medical Center, American Friends of Tel Aviv University, The Jewish Museum, and American Jewish Congress.
